On Friday, April 6th, 2018 at Stockton Arena, University of the Pacific Sports Management students helped the Stockton Heat front office and staff with selling, promoting, running, and taking over the Heat game against the San Jose Barracuda, their Western Conference Pacific Division rival. The Heat are a professional American Hockey League ice hockey team and AHL-affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). The project is called “Pacific Heats Up” and Skip worked in ticket sales and promoted the organization from February to May of 2018. The objective was to learn sport event and facility management skills leading up to a college themed game. Mr. Breen reached out to and attracted various members of the Pacific community using a Facebook group, which included board of regents members, current students, student-athletes, athletics, campus Greek life, clubs, and alumni. Following the 7–3 loss, Breen recapped the night during a postgame interview. He discussed and shared his thoughts on the experience, which has now become an annual project between the department and organization. Three days later, the interview was uploaded on YouTube by Heat TV.
